Year 7 -  Miss L Neill (

 Welcome to Year Seven!

In Year 7 we work very hard in the core subjects of Numeracy and Literacy BUT there are also lots of opportunities for fun learning, too. Our WAU topics include: Space, a European Christmas and Life in Victorian Times.  We go on educational visits to Armagh Planetarium and The Palace Stables. We also visit KS3 schools and welcome visitors to our classroom.

During the year, in PDMU, we learn how to organise our learning time in preparation for transfer to KS3. We enjoy the responsibilities of helping the younger children and play a vital role in preparing for school events.
We also spend time in the ICT suite where we use our computer skills to produce powerpoints, brochures and posters.

Year 7 is a busy but very enjoyable place!

Below is a short collection of photos from our last day in school in at the start of July.

This is a link to an iMovie on Google Drive.

We visited the Planetarium and spent time exploring the various planets and star constellations in our galaxy. We were able to see a real life asteroid that landed in Northern Ireland and before we went outside we designed and built our water powered rockets.

Life on board the ISS

We visited BeeSafe this year in Maze Presbyterian Church where we attended several workshops about health and safety.

We learned about bus safety and how to travel to and from our new schools through an onboard discussion with our friends from Translink.

We went back indoors and met representatives from the PSNI and the Northern Ireland Fire Brigade. We talked about being safe online by being SMART and discussed the importance of an escape plan in the event of a fire in our homes and simple steps we can follow to reduce this risk.

After this we we met with the NIE and talked about the dangers of electricity and how even the simplest thing such as charging our phones for too long and the importance of not overloading sockets. We also learned about the various types of Electrictity stations around us and ways of being safe when playing outside.

To finish our day, we had discussion about healthy eating and what types of food we should be eating regularly.
