Primary 5 is the beginning of a whole new Key Stage for our children! We start to become more independent learners and learn how to carry out research for our many P5 topics.
P5 is a year packed with fun activities and challenges.
Primary 5 pupils will enjoy a varied curriculum which encourages them to be enthusiastic and motivated learners. Reading, writing and Mathematics are taught daily through interactive, practical and enjoyable activities.
We also get to study some very exciting topics this year beginning with our Survival topic, looking at Life in Early Times, in particular the Stone Age, and how they survived. We will get the chance to do lots of research and hopefully learn a lot from each other through group and class discussions!
We also look at the environment and how we, as a school, can help protect our surroundings by thinking about how we use resources such as water and how we dispose of our waste through recycling.
After Christmas, we learn about the Egyptians. We will learn about their many inventions, buildings and ideas that are still used today. During this topic we will complete our Egyptian project of choice where we will showcase our learning through models, posters and presentations. It is also during this topic we take a trip to the Ulster Museum in Belfast to visit Takabuti and hear all about Egyptian life.
Another of our topics is all about Flight. We will learn about how Flight is essential to our environment and the benefits to animals and plants. We also take a look at Flight coming to Ireland and the importance this has had on the development of avaiation today.
For our final topic of the year we will be discussing the weather. Being from Northern Ireland what else can we talk about? We will be looking at the age old question... Where does rain come from? We will also be comparing a variety of places around the world to discuss their weather and the positive and negative effects of extreme weather events.
